EASY All-American Decor

Memorial Day in San Antonio, Texas

Hey friends! Memorial Day weekend is almost upon us. This holiday is our opportunity to remember and celebrate those who so bravely sacrificed their lives in service of our country.

My home town of San Antonio, Texas is also known as Military City, USA due to our strong, nearly three century long relationship with the US Military. In fact, the city of San Antonio recently officially trademarked the nickname with the US Patent and Trademark Office in July of 2017!

Needless to say, we are VERY proud of our hundreds of thousands of military personnel and their families who call San Antonio home!

All Fun, No Fuss

This time of year is EXTREMELY busy for me, both in my professional life and in my home life. End-of-year school projects and events and back-to-back work projects during the spring real estate season have left me with very little time (or energy!) for seasonal decorating! Anyone else?!? That’s why this had to QUICK and EASY! As per my usual seasonal decorating strategy, I opted to focus on only a few key spots in my home.

The Front Door

American flags in multiple sizes found at Target provide the just the right, budget-friendly accents I was looking for.

Here I have simply added one large and two small flags to my everyday door wreath for an easy breezy nod to summertime patriotism.

The Foyer

Faux potted grasses are some of my favorite ways to add a touch of green to a space. They provide just the right pop of versatile color and life that can be used in SO many ways!

Here, faux grass potted in simple white ceramic (found at Ross) provides the perfect anchor for another one of my flags. My white ceramic All-American dog (from HomeGoods) rests upon vintage books (scores from a Half Price Books clearance sale). Star-spangled outdoor pillows (from Wal-Mart) complete the look for only $5 bucks each!

The Dining Room

Yet two more flags join my everyday tulip arrangement in a vintage silver urn which I inherited from my mom. The rustic “Family” sign in the background was a HomeGoods find.

One of my favorite elements is the bronze bald eagle wall hanging. My oldest son found this YEARS ago at a local Goodwill when we were redecorating his room in an Americana/Camouflage theme. Aww! I miss those days! But now the eagle is MINE!

The Living Room

I opted to focus on the fireplace mantel and leave it at that for my living room.

More potted grasses accented with tall flags make a happy, patriotic statement. I pulled some red, white, and blue books from my home library to tuck in between the potted grasses and flags. A striped and spangled metal star (also a remnant of my son’s childhood room) completes this easy display.

The Breakfast Nook

The everyday potted grasses that live on my table and shelves in the breakfast nook were quickly accented with the remaining flags I had left.

I just love how these little flags just nestle in the grass! Somehow they look so right with my everyday farmhouse wall art.

Final Thoughts

I’ve got to be honest, y’all: This stuff is going to stay up through AT LEAST the 4th of July! And why not? After all, what could be more versatile and easy for the summer than grass and patriotism?

XOXO, Victoria
